Writing prescriptions

This article walks you through the process of ePrescribing non-controlled substances, including adding medications, signing and sending prescriptions, and checking prescription statuses.

 

Prescribing a new medication (Non-Controlled Substances)

  1. Start from the EHR Dashboard.
  2. Find the patient’s next appointment in the timeline on the left-side.
  3. Click on the patient's name and open their chart.
  4. Find the relevant appointment on the patient’s timeline to link the medication to. 
  5. Click the 3 dots next to the appointment title.

  6. Select Add Linked > Medication
  7. Start typing the medication name in the search bar. Review the search results and click on a drug to add it
  8. Adjust the Type, Frequency, Quantity, Refill information, etc. 
  9. Set the pharmacy location. 
  10. Ensure that “current” is checked on the medication.
  11. Click Save, Sign and Send. 
  12. After you click Save Sign and Send, a pop-up window will appear. Reread your prescription info to ensure it is correct.
    • Make sure pop-ups are allowed in your browser. Instructions for common browsers: Chrome, Safari, and Firefox
  13. Click the sign button on the pop-up and enter the Sign-off password: 1234
  14. Click eSend.
  15. You will see a green checkmark next to the medication “Signed” when your prescription has been successfully sent.

Prescribing multiple medications

  1. To prescribe multiple medications, you must complete them one at a time.
  2. After sending your 1st prescription, click “New” on the top right to start the next one.

Prior authorizations

  1. Please make sure you have a CoverMyMeds account first. 
  2. For support with setting up or using this account, please visit covermymeds.com.

Prior Authorization Denials: Rula does not have visibility into why a Prior Auth may have been denied. Please contact the number listed on the denial to request for more information (866-452-5017).

 

Checking a prescription status

  1. Login to AMD's EHR.
  2. Click the Reports tab on the top toolbar. 
  3. Select e-send Status
  4. Select Prescription
  5. You can filter by your name, patient, date, and more to click on the prescription and view the status.

Rewriting prescriptions

If the prescription was already signed, you will need to rewrite the prescription with the appropriate edits. To do this:

  1. Open AdvancedMD and navigate to the patient's chart, then go to the Medications card
  2. Click the three dots next to the Date/Status of the incorrect prescription(s)
  3. Select Update Medication > Mark Historic. Confirm the status change.
  4. Create and send a new prescription with the correct information.
