Ordering labs in AMD

This article covers how to order labs after an appointment. Includes how to sign lab orders. It provides a video and step-by-step guidance for processing this in the EHR. 

The AdvancedMD + Quest integration is live in many states. All remaining states should be integrated soon. If you do not see Quest listed as an option when trying to order labs, please email psychsupport@rula.com with your patient's chart number and the labs you would like ordered and our Support team will place this order for you.

 

Process Overview

  1. The clinician identifies that the patient should get lab work done, discusses this during the visit, and instructs the patient that they’ll be able to go to a Quest or LabCorp (depending on the order) to get their blood drawn
  2. The provider orders labs in AMD to Quest (LabCorp coming soon!)
  3. Quest then has the order in their system and will be able to identify the patient and lab orders when the patient makes an appointment to get the labs drawn
  4. IF the patient has an HMO plan, they will need to go to their PCP to get lab orders.
  5. The patient goes to Quest Service Center to get bloodwork done
  6. Lab results come back to us in AMD
  7. The clinician interprets the results and relays them to the patient

During the Visit

During the visit, be sure to educate the patient on the labs you’re ordering and give them a general idea of the process.

Guided steps

To order labs:

  1. When you’re in a patient note, click Add Linked → Order



  2. Fill in the Facility field (find your name from the dropdown list)
  3. Check the box for PSC Hold
  4. Navigate to the Tests tab
  5. Under Company, toggle to Quest



    It will default to the Psychiatric Labs order set
  6. Select the labs you want to order
    1. You can also search for tests in the Other Tests tab
  7. Navigate to the ICDs tab and enter the associated diagnosis code(s)
    1. You’ll need to click the diagnosis code to populate it for each lab order
    2. You can click into each of the boxes under the Diagnosis section
  8. Click Save
  9. When you’re done, click Sign to sign off on and send the order. Orders will appear on the chart in the Orders section and will show up on the timeline when linked properly to a visit.

 

Receiving and Interpreting Results

  1. Lab results will come back directly in AMD on the patient’s chart!
  2. You will need to review, save, and sign the lab results.
