This article explains how to request lab work for your patients through the Rula provider portal. Rula has a dedicated support team that submits lab orders on your behalf and uploads lab results to the patient's chart once available.
During the Visit
While in session with your patient:
Obtain verbal consent to access their lab history. This is required to complete the Lab Order Form.
Explain the lab process and what tests are being ordered.
Let the patient know they’ll need to go to a Quest Diagnostics location to complete their labs.
Important: Rula is partnered with Quest. If a patient cannot go to Quest or their insurance does not cover Quest, you should still complete the Lab Order Form so that we can provide a lab requisition. The patient may take that requisition to their primary care provider or preferred lab.
How to submit lab orders
- Log in to the Rula provider portal.
- Navigate to the Clients tab and select the patient you'd like to order labs for
- Click Order labs in the top right of the client chart.
- This will open a form in a new tab to start the lab request.
- Complete all required fields, including verbal consent, diagnosis, and the lab tests you are requesting.
- Submit the form.
- Once submitted, our team will receive the request and begin processing. You can return to the provider portal.

After lab order submission
Within 48 business hours, a Rula agent will submit your lab order to Quest. You will receive a confirmation email once the order is submitted.
When results are available:
A Rula agent will upload them to the patient’s chart.
You’ll be notified via email.
You can view results under Notes & Documents in the Rula provider portal.

Troubleshooting lab order submissions
If you encounter issues submitting the Lab Order Form, follow these troubleshooting steps:
- Use the Google Chrome browser.
- Confirm Chrome is up to date.
- Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- Close your browser and try again.
If the order still fails to submit:
Contact Support by using the AI search bar on this page and ask to connect with a live agent for assistance. When you reach out, include the following details so we can resolve the issue promptly:
- If you obtained verbal patient consent (Yes or No)
- Patient's full name
- Patient's date of birth
- Patient’s state
- Patient's diagnosis
- Lab test(s) being ordered
- If labs are fasting (Yes or No)
If your patient cannot go to Quest
If a patient is unable to go to Quest Diagnostics or prefers an alternate lab, follow the steps below:
- Complete the Lab Order Form so that our team can generate the requisition.
- Advise the patient to take the requisition form to their preferred lab or primary care provider.
- If the preferred lab cannot fulfill the order, the patient may ask their primary care provider to complete the labs and send results to psychsupport@rula.com to upload.
