In this article, we will cover how to cancel and stop a medication in DrFirst. Remember, to get to DrFirst, you have to start in the Rula provider portal.
When you cancel a medication, a notification will be sent to the pharmacy alerting them that you have done so. If you stop a medication, it will be removed from the patient's active medications in DrFirst.
Canceling Medications Guided Steps
- Log in to the Rula provider portal
- Navigate to the Clients tab and select the client you'd like to add a pharmacy for
- Click Manage medications in the top right corner to open DrFirst for this patient
- Note that you can only manage medication for this specific patient. If you'd like to go to another patient's information page in DrFirst, you'll need to navigate back to that client's chart in the portal and launch DrFirst again.
- Now that DrFirst is open in a new tab, navigate to Prescription Management at the bottom of the page.
- Find the medication you would like to cancel, and click the X button under Actions.
- Select the reason for canceling the prescription. On this screen, you will have the option to Also Stop Medication, which will remove it from the patient's active medication list.
- Click Cancel Prescription button. You will see a notification at the top of the screen confirming the cancellation.
Stopping Medications Guided Steps
- Log in to the Rula provider portal

- Now that DrFirst is open in a new tab, navigate to the Active Medications section of the patient's information screen.
- On the medication you'd like to stop, click the Stop icon
- A pop-up will appear. Here you can confirm the date to stop the medication (default is today's date), and confirm the reason for stopping the medication.
- Click Stop
- You should see a confirmation under the Medications section confirming that the medication has been stopped.
