Disability & Accommodations Policy
Effective 9/9, compensation for completing medically necessary forms will come directly from Rula rather than through direct patient invoicing, providing a straightforward, guaranteed way to be compensated for this work. Compensation is as follows:

| Medical accommodations letter | $50 |
*Disability payment is calculated on a per-patient basis. For medical accommodations, if you submitted multiple letters for a single patient and believe additional payment is owed, please reach out to ap@rula.com
Please note, form completion remains at the clinical discretion of the treating provider. If it is not clinically indicated in your judgment, you may decline and should notify the patient promptly so they can pursue alternative options.
Documenting completed paperwork
Payment is triggered by your documentation. To receive payment, mark "Yes" in the note field labeled "Is the patient on or being granted disability or accommodations?
Select the paperwork type in the "What will be provided?" - this determines what payment you receive. Add the start and end dates, along with any context in Additional Notes. This documentation generates your payment, so complete it during the session rather than retroactively
Submitting state disability and FMLA paperwork
Before submitting any California-specific forms (such as disability certifications), please ensure you are registered with and compliant with California's Employment Development Department ("CA EDD") requirements.
If you're a California-licensed psychiatric nurse practitioner living in another state, you can still certify California State Disability Insurance (DI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) claims. Living out of state does not disqualify you, and a California driver's license is not required. There are, however, a few key steps to complete first. Please note: if you are not registered with CA EDD, the form cannot be processed and the patient will not receive their benefit payments, even if you have signed the certification.
Setting expectations with patients
Disability paperwork can directly affect a patient's income, so timely, transparent communication is key. Let the patient know promptly whether you feel the paperwork is clinically indicated, when they can expect it, and what to expect after submission. Remember: Compensation for this paperwork is handled directly through Rula and is not invoiced directly to the patient.
